World War IDS Ringholm
DS Ringholm was torpedoed by the German U-boat UC-41 on April 20, 1917, southwest of Berwick. The ship was en route from Bergen to Tonnay Charente, carrying ammonium nitrate. Four people lost their lives in the shipwreck, including the steward and the cook, who were brothers. Ten people were later rescued by British fishermen after the lifeboat capsized three times.
