World War IIDS Roy
SS Roy was on a journey from London to Blyth in ballast. By October 12th 1941, the convoy was attacked by at least four German E-boats with torpedoes before they got driven off by the convoy escort. One of the torpedoes struck Roy and blew away half the poop deck and water streamed in. The lifeboats were lowered to the sea. Two men boarded the wreck, found a crew member that was stuck and one that was badly wounded. They managed to save the stuck crewmember and down to the boat. Just half a minute after they got into the lifeboat, Roy went down. The survivors were brought to Grimsby. Three Norwegians and a Briton perished in the sinking.
