World War IDS St. Croix
DS St. Croix was sunk on December 12, 1917, by the German U-boat U-60 off Lundy Island. The ship was en route from Gothenburg to Passage, Spain, with a cargo of wood pulp. Attempts were made to salvage the ship, but it sank after approximately four hours due to disputes over the salvage operation. Tragically, 2 persons lost their lives in the sinking.
