World War IIDS Start
The DS Start was torpedoed on 1 February 1940 by the German U-boat U-13 off the coast of Scotland. The vessel was en route from Sunderland to Norway. Some wreckage later drifted ashore in Scotland. Start had departed Sunderland on 29 January 1940, but no further signs of life were ever received from the ship. Sixteen Norwegians perished in the sinking.
