World War IIDS Svein Jarl
DS Svein Jarl was on a journey in convoy from Oban to Halifax, but lost the convoy due to bad weather and sailed alone. On the 23rd of February 1941, the German U-boat U-96 struck the ship with one torpedo in the position 5910N, 2100W. 25 Norwegians, two Swedes and a Briton perished in the sinking. A new Norwegian ship with the same name hit a mine and sunk outside of Greece in 1948.
