World War IIDS Torungen
SS Torungen was on a journey from Halifax to Charleston. The ship was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-96 in position 4400N, 6330W at the 22nd February of 1942. Nothing was heard of this ship or from any possible survivors, but the 2nd March a lifeboat filled with water containing the body of the first engineer of Torungen was found outside of Lockport in Nova Scotia. The entire crew perished in the sinking which consisted of 12 Norwegians, three Danes, one Swede, one Fin, one Estonian and a Dutch.
