World War IIDS Varangberg
SS Varangberg was on a journey in a North-to-South Atlantic convoy, loaded with iron ore when the convoy was located by a German aircraft . On the 26th of September 1941, early in the morning, the German U-boat U-203 attacked Varangberg with four torpedoes in the position 4750N, 2450W. The ship sank quickly and only six men managed to get onto rafts. The six survivors on the rafts was picked up by an escort and brought to Milford Haven. 20 Norwegians, a Briton and a Swede passed perished in the sinking.
