World War IDS Vasconia
DS Vasconia was struck by a mine on April 9, 1918, by a mine laid by the German U-boay UC-33 at the entrance to Alexandria. The ship was en route from Naples, via Massawa, to Calcutta, carrying general cargo, mail, and passengers. At the time of the shipwreck, there were 32 crew members and 44 passengers on board the Vasconia. Seven people lost their lives in the shipwreck.
