World War IIDS Vespasian

The Norwegian DS Vespasian was sailing in convoy from Oban to Mackenzie, British Guiana, when the vessel fell behind. According to German records, the ship was torpedoed on 25 January 1941 by the U-boat U-123 in position 55°N 15°W. The U-boat’s attack report cannot be matched with any other missing vessel, making it likely that the ship in question was Vespasian. The torpedoing took place in very rough weather, which may explain why none of the 18 Norwegian crew members survived the sinking.
