World War IIDS Vesteraalen
The Norwegian DS Vesteraalen was torpedoed on 17 October 1941 by the Soviet U-boat SC-402 off Nuvsvåg on the Finnmark coast. The vessel was en route between Tromsø and Hammerfest and had been placed on the route after the coastal express ship Richard With had been sunk earlier that year. The ship sank in less than half a minute, taking 60 people down with it. Only seven people survived the sinking—six crew members and one passenger.
