DT Litiopa was one of the oldest tankers in Nortraship’s fleet. On October 22, 1943, while en route from Lagos to Freetown in ballast, the vessel was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-68 off the coast of Freetown. The entire crew managed to get into the lifeboats, but two later died from their injuries.
