World War IIDT Norfjell
The DT Norfjell was en route from the White Sea, heavily escorted, to join a westbound convoy. The vessel was torpedoed on February 14, 1945, by the German U-boat U-968 off Kolafjord. The torpedo struck the engine room, instantly killing two men. The tanker managed to stay afloat and was taken in tow by the escort. The damage was not severe enough to prevent temporary repairs, allowing the ship to head west for permanent repairs. Norfjell was repaired after the war and continued in service until it was scrapped in 1960.
