World War IISS Svend Foyn
The British floating whaling factory SS Svend Foyn struck an iceberg and sank on 21 March 1943, approximately 70 nautical miles from Cape Farewell, Greenland. A total of 195 people perished, including eight Norwegians. In October 1941, the vessel had been torpedoed by a German U-boat but had managed to reach land.
