World War IISS Tafelberg
The British floating whale factory SS Tafelberg was damaged when it hit a mine on 28 January 1941 off the coast of the United Kingdom. In 1942/43, the vessel was renamed Empire Heritage. On 8 September 1944, it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-482 while in convoy. Of the 163 persons aboard, 112 perished in the sinking, including two Norwegians, while fifty-one persons were rescued.
