MS Grenanger was torpedoed on April 11, 1942, by the German U-boat U-130. The ship was traveling alone from Santos to New York, carrying a full load of general cargo and coffee. The entire crew survived the sinking and reached Sombrero Island on April 18 in lifeboats.
