World War IIMS Hav
The MS Hav had unloaded barley in Suez from Basra and was en route to Beirut on 13 May 1942. Just an hour after departure, a violent explosion occurred midship, and a massive amount of water flooded the ship. Hav had struck a mine off Port Said. A motorman in the engine room was killed, and one was found dead in the sea. Several of the crew were injured. Tugboats managed to tow Hav towards shore, where the wreck was landed. Salvage was deemed impossible, and later in the summer, the wreck was ravaged by six fires that reduced the ship to scrap.
