World War IIMS Hindanger
The MS Hindanger was part of convoy ON127 from the United Kingdom to St. John’s. The convoy was attacked by a total of 13 German U-boats, approximately at position 52N and 28W. On 11 September 1942, Hindanger was struck by a torpedo from the German U-boat U-584. The ship remained afloat, but the damage was too severe to save the vessel. The corvette Amherst rescued the survivors and subjected the wreck to gunfire along with a sinking mine, which led to the ship’s sinking. One man perished in the sinking, and another died later from his injuries.
