World War IIMS Reinholt

MS Reinholt was en route from Santos to New York. On April 23, 1942, the ship was attacked by gunfire from the German submarine U-752 outside Ambrose Light. Reinholt responded with its own cannon fire, and the submarine chose to dive for safety. Reinholt sustained damage and caught fire, but the fire was later extinguished. The entire engagement lasted about 20 minutes. Reinholt managed to reach New York under its own power the following day. Boatswain John Sætre was killed, while carpenter Karl Lundstrøm and Danish telegraphist Hans Mortensen both had their legs severed and were taken to the hospital. The ship was eventually scrapped in 1974.
