World War IIMS Segundo
MV Segundo was on a journey in convoy from Liverpool to Curacao in ballast. On the 27th of August 1941, the convoy was attacked by six German uboats and Segundo was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-557 in position 4730N, 1700W. The ship sank in 7 minutes. Despite the rough seas managed the crew to lower down two lifeboats off the sinking ship. Several crew members did not manage to get to the lifeboats quickly enough and had to jump overboard. The lifeboats could not rescue them before it was too late. An escort vessel rescued two men on a raft, 23 from the lifeboats and two men which stayed afloat on some debris. Five Norwegians, a Swede and an Estonian perished in the sinking.
