World War IIMT Beduin
The Norwegian MT Beduin was sailing in convoy to the United Kingdom with a cargo of oil. The convoy consisted of 41 ships and was attacked by five German U-boats on 16 March 1941. That same day, Beduin was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-99 in position 61°N 13°W, near Lousy Bank. Thirty members of the crew escaped in the lifeboats. Most were picked up by the escort vessels, while ten men appear to have drifted at sea for some time before being rescued by the Icelandic vessel Helmin and brought ashore in Fleetwood on 23 March. Four men were lost in the sinking. U-99 was sunk later that same day.
