World War IIMT Buccaneer
MT Buccaneer was one of the “Kvarstad boats”, which was interned in Gøteborg. In April 1942, Buccaneer, along with 9 other boats, broke free and escaped to the sea. They had armed their ships with explosives with the intention of blowing themselves up to avoid the Germans capturing the vessel. Only two ships reached UK, all the other ships were blown up and the crew were taken Germany prison camps. 10 of the crew onboard the Buccaneer died in German captivity.
