World War IIMT Buesten

MT Buesten was traveling in a coastal convoy between Dartmouth and Southampton loaded with 7200-tons of gasoline and petroleum. On the 9th of April 1941 was the ship attacked by German airplanes 5 nautical miles from Berry Head. The ship was attacked several times, and after a while, was one of the tanks filled with gasoline hit. The gasoline fire quickly consumed the entire aft, and everyone there perished. On the amidships managed the crew to lower down a lifeboat that seven men boarded, and these men were later rescued. 28 perished in the flames, these were 19 Norwegians, a Dane a Maltesian and seven Brits. Eight days later was Captain Otto Farstad from the MT Buesten killed during an air raid on London.
