World War IIMT Elsa
The MT Elsa was en route from Madras to Calcutta with 7,000 tons of paraffin when it was attacked by a Japanese cruiser on 6 April 1942, 25 nautical miles east of Cuttack in the Bay of Bengal. The vessel caught fire, and one man was killed, while several others were injured. Two lifeboats reached land the following morning, south of False Point. The wounded received first aid there, and all survivors were subsequently sent to Cuttack.
