World War IISS Richard Bland
The American SS Richard Bland was first torpedoed on March 5, 1943, by the German U-boat U-255, but managed to stay afloat. The vessel was torpedoed again by the same U-boat on March 10, causing the ship to break in two. The American vessel was en route from Murmansk to Loch Ewe with timber. Thirty-four people lost their lives, and 35 were rescued.
