World War IISS West Lashaway
The American SS West Lashaway was torpedoed on August 30, 1942, by the German U-boat U-66. The vessel was en route from Matadi, Lagos, Accra, Takoradi, and Port of Spain to Trinidad. The cargo included copper, cocoa beans, and palm oil. Thirty-eight people lost their lives in the sinking, and 18 people were rescued.
