World War IDS Aalesund
DS Aalesund was torpedoed by the German U-boat UC-71 on January 23, 1918, approximately 12 nautical miles southwest of St. Catherine Light. The ship was en route from Caen to Barry in ballast. Tragically, 6 people lost their lives in the sinking. (Source: sjohistorie.no)
