World War IDS Maidag

DS Maidag was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-104 in the English Channel on December 15, 1917. The ship was en route from Newport to Bordeaux, carrying coal. Three people lost their lives in the shipwreck when one lifeboat capsized. The first mate and the chief engineer were severely injured. (Sources: Sjøhistorie.no and “Med norsk skib i verdenskrigen”)
