World War IIDS Rimfakse
SS Rimfakse was on a journey from Loch Ewe to Iceland, carrying 1900 tons of coal. On the 27th of April 1941, Rimfakse was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-147 in the position 6010N, 0854W. The ship sank within two minutes. Eight men boarded onto rafts. They heard cries of help in the dark, but the rafts were not equipped to maneuver. Two hours later, the cries of help were silenced. The eight men found another raft, in which they lashed their own raft to and then split the group equally on both of them. Later that day they were discovered by a British ship and taken in to Crabster. 10 Norwegians and an Estonian sailor perished in the sinking.
