World War IIDS William Hansen
SS William Hansen was torpedoed on a voyage to St. Johns on the 21st of January 1942 just outside of Torry Land Head, by a German U754 submarine in position 4656N, 5247W. Five survivors were rescued by a corvette and brought to St. Johns on the 22nd of January. The ship was on a journey from Argentia to St. John’s, Newfoundland. 12 Norwegians, a Swede and an Estonian perished in the sinking.
