MS Harbo Jensen var på reise fra Alexandria til Benghazi med krigsmateriell. Underveis ble skipet omdirigert til Tobruk. Harboe Jensen hadde gjort flere turer i dette farvannet og var flere ganger blitt angrepet av tyske fly. Den 15. januar 1943 ble skipet torpedert av den tyske ubåten U-617 i posisjon 3304N og 2150Ø. Skipet sank hurtig. En armert tråler fulgte skipet og satte i gang redningsaksjon, men fant bare fem nordmenn og en brite. De fem hadde hoppet over bord og fikk rettet opp en kantret livbåt. 18 mann omkom i forliset.

MV Harbo Jensen was on a journey from Alexandria to Benghazi with war materials. The ship was redirected to Tobruk during its voyage. Harbo Jensen had done several trips in this area and had been attacked several times by German aircrafts. This time the ship was torpedoed the 15th of January 1943 by the German uboat U-617 in position 3304N, 2150E. Harbo Jensen sunk rapidly. An armed trawler which had followed the ship started to rescue the crew, but they only found five Norwegians and a Brit. These five had jumped off ship and managed to straighten a lifeboat which had been flipped upside down. 18 people perished in the sinking.
