World War IIMS Primero

MV Primero was on a journey from Suez and Aden, carrying a shipment of salt as ballast, intended for Port of Spain via Cape Town. Primero was on return after delivering munitions in the Middle-East. On the 25th of October 1942, the vessel was torpedoed by a German U-boat U-67 in the position 1338N, 5355W. The torpedo struck the machine room and killed two men. The lifeboats were lowered to the water after 18 minutes. When the boats were ready, another torpedo detonated, but the ship kept itself afloat. It was safe to say that the ship was impossible to save, even if they wanted to board again. 40 survivors set sail for Trinidad, on the 31st of October, they reached land. Two men perished in the sinking.
