World War IISS George Thatcher

The American SS George Thatcher was torpedoed on 1 November 1942 by the German U-boat U-126. The vessel was en route from Charleston via Freetown and Takoradi to Point Noire, carrying 4,005 tons of ambulances, trucks, barrels of gasoline, and various construction equipment. Eighteen lives were lost, while forty-eight persons were rescued.
